About The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs

Following its 2022 sell-out run at Soho Theatre, The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs comes to Kiln Theatre. Book The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs tickets on London Theatre.

This thought-provoking and hilarious show tells the tale of the country’s only lesbian choir. Each week, they meet in a dilapidated hall to sing with the goal of getting a slot on the Pride mainstage. Through songs and laughter, relationships are formed and tested, and topics of transphobia, homophobia, bullying, and racism are all thoughtfully explored.

There isn’t a lot of lesbian specific theatre, and Iman Qureshi (The Funeral Director) sought to explore genuine community in The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs. As the 4-star review from Time Out said, “She [Qureshi] toys enjoyably with lesbian cliches (sensible footwear, veganism, buzzcuts) only to reach beyond them to tell less familiar stories.”

The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs in London stars Fanta Barrie (Belly Up), Olivier Award winning actress Liz Carr (The Normal Heart), Zak Ghazi-Torbati (Hot Gay Time Machine), Leah Harvey (Emilia), Georgie Henley (Narnia), Mariah Louca (The Doctor), Serena Manteghi (Otherland), and Shuna Snow (Iron).

Artistic director and CEO of Kiln Theatre, Amit Sharma, said, “What an absolutely phenomenal cast we have for The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs. Iman’s play celebrates love, identity and community with heart and humour – and with this cast it has all of the above in abundance. I can’t wait for audiences to come and see this brilliant play!”

The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs is a musical that also boasts an excellent creative team, which includes direction by Hannah Hauer-King, design by Anna Reid, lighting design by Zoe Spurr, composer, co-sound designer, and co-musical direction by Nicola T Chang, co-sound design by Tingying Dong, co-musical direction by Viki Calver, and intimacy and fight direction by Bethan Clark.
